Responsibilities include hiring, mentoring and reviewing faculty; overseeing curriculum, budget, faculty development; scheduling over 150 courses each semester; resolving student issues; working with other department chairs and with the dean of the School of the Arts.

Jim has worked as a design consultant for many companies, specializing in web site architecture and design. Clients include HydraPak Seals, Uki Hoods and UVU.
Creative Director, KHG Advertising, 1995–2000
Together with two native Montanans, opened the doors of KHG Advertising in the fall of 1995. KHG was a full service agency, offering everything from media placement to web design. Managed the creative department, consisting of a staff of five, including a satellite office in Helena, Montana. Oversaw concept, design and technical production of billboards, television ads, radio ads, web sites, newspaper ads, magazine ads, brochures, corporate identities, catalogs, etc. Handled design and production of all collateral materials (brochures, invitations, travel guides) for Travel Montana, the state government’s tourism division. Other clients included: Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), Billings Symphony Orchestra, CellularOne, Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA), Montana Power Company, New West Health Plan, Pella Windows of Montana, Red Lodge Mountain, Rocky Mountain Bank, and Yellowstone National Park.
Art Director, Penna Powers Cutting Haynes (PPCH), 1991–1995
Designed corporate identities, catalogs, brochures, newspaper and magazine advertisements, billboards, annual reports, packaging and other marketing and design materials. Handled everything from concept and design to overseeing photo shoots. Clients included CellularOne, Digitech, Dynatech, Easton Aluminum, Easton Sports, LDS Hospital-Amicus Foundation, Marker, Sun Valley.
